Dying Twine and Ribbon To Match Your Art
This tip will be published in the June 2002 issue of Vamp Stamp News. It will make dying ribbon and twine less messy;
Put your desired length of material to be colored into a plastic Ziploc baggie
and pour some paint inside. Leave a short tail of string sticking out of
the bag and zip it up to that string opening.
Then you can take your fingers and squish the string, saturating all the fibers with color. Using your thumb and index finger of one hand, grab the string just below the opening (all paint is inside and your fingers are on the outside).
Then take the other hand and pull the string out of the baggie
through your pinched fingers. This forces the excess paint out of the
string and back down into the bag for your next project. Lay your dyed
string on wax paper to dry.
Two good things about this procedure is that your fingers stay fairly clean and
you can seal the bag back up, keeping the paint moist for next time.
